More details

The boundaries between art and fashion continue to blur, with collaborations between artists and designers leading the way in contemporary fashion design. Will Broome (CSM) is the illustrator behind the Miss Marc character, the famed icon of the Marc by Marc Jacobs fashion label. Will has worked for Marc Jacobs, Gucci, Missoni, Hugo Boss, Becks and Vans. He has also designed a range of t-shirts for Topshop (Will Broome for Topshop) and a dinner service for Wedgwood.

Will works in an ‘old school’ way using marker pens and cut-out paper techniques. This workshop provides you with the opportunity to hear about Will’s hands-on approach to illustration. This will be contrasted to the majority of the fashion industry which relies heavily on computer generated imagery- it is perhaps this that makes Will unique. He will talk about his career in fashion and share his experiences, explain his influences and answer your questions about his projects which include live installation work.

The second part of the morning will involve a tour of the Saatchi Gallery exhibition Champagne Life with mini sketchbooks to produce thumbnail doodles from inspiring imagery. These sketches will then be used to help you to develop your own characters or graphic motifs to use in your fashion illustration work. In the afternoon session you will customise a t-shirt with a fashion illustration inspired by Will’s technique.
