Cross cultural references are key in contemporary fashion as the continents and their traditions collide. As the world becomes smaller by faster means of transport and enhanced e-communication, our range of influences diversifies and our exposure to design from across the globe increases.

Samson Soboye (CSM) was the first ‘boutique’ retailer to open in Shoreditch. As a fashion entrepreneur, Samson explores the very best in African-inspired design from across the continent. He works successfully as a stylist, retailer, fashion & interior designer, mentor and educator. Enjoy an informal talk with Samson and have the chance to ask him questions about his many projects and Africa-inspired design ethos. In the second part of the morning you will explore Samson’s products and learn how to produce a technical flat drawing.

The afternoon session will include a live model wearing themed products to allow you to illustrate vivid, colour-rich designs using mixed methods including print techniques such as stenciling and printing.

Inspiration will be taken from modern and contemporary artists and illustrators. At the end
of the workshop you will have a range of fashion drawings focusing on Africa-inspired products
that can be used as part of a portfolio or as artworks for you to enjoy.
