Money became a very important subject matter for Andy Warhol early on in the 1960s, when he began drawing and silk screening the images of dollar bills. In the 1970s, Warhol focused on the nexus between art and commerce. During his career as a commercial illustrator, and, later as a fine artist, the relation between money and his artwork continued to be a focal point for Warhol. The 1980s was an era that symbolized the union between art and money.
