ALO is a self taught artist born in Italy and now living and working in London.
In ALO’s own words, “I just paint people. I like to use shape, colour and texture to describe the deeper and inner sides of human beings.”
ALO continues to create work for the street as well as for interior walls. The techniques that he employs are the same whether the work is to be displayed indoors or outside. Increasingly ALO has been utilising found materials upon which to paint and mark.
ALO's works are often inspired by, and refer back to, milestones of art history. ALO is influenced by art from Africa and Cubism. Often the portraits are reminiscent of those in Les Demoiselles d'Avignon by Picasso in that the eyes are at once empty and yet also full of emotions. The choice of subject matter - beautifully sylised women, people from city corners and those from the margins of life were also the focus of works by German Expressionists in the 1920s and 1930s.
As ALO states "I've always been drawn to this 'outside society'. I feel I most belong to this aspect of mankind".
